He toi whakairo, he mana tangata.
Where there is artistic excellence, there is human dignity.

Toi Te Papa Art of the Nation is a major celebration of New Zealand’s rich and diverse artistic heritage. This long-term exhibition showcases more than 300 impressive artworks from Te Papa’s collections.

Iconic works from major artists like Heberley, Goldie, McCahon, Angus, Hotere, Albrecht, and Cotton sit alongside lesser-known treasures. Recurring themes and art movements are explored.

New display: In a clear light
In a clear light, the new Collection Focus segment, showcases a selection of abstract and realist works from the 1960s and 1970s – a time when many different strands emerged in New Zealand art and the existence of a specifically New Zealand style was much debated. more>
