Waharoa
Whakamārama stands at the entrance to Mana Whenua and is a powerful example of a contemporary taonga based on a traditional concept. It is a waharoa (entranceway), offering a moment to pause and reflect before entering the exhibition.
Whakamārama (Enlightening), 1997, made from tōtara wood and aluminium by Ross Hēmara, purchased 1998 with New Zealand Lottery Grants Board funds
