The five tours to Suite in August were so successful and as you were interested in their forthcoming exhibition, a repeat visit has been arranged.

This time three tours to view Her Great Vitality: a celebration of 150 years of female fortitude in the arts have been arranged. Her great vitality features five women painters whose determination, within an often male-dominated art world, has helped shape the face of painting in this country. Artists include Dame Louise Henderson, Frances Hodgkins, Piera McArthur, Margaret Stoddart and Barbara Strathdee. Her great vitality  does its part in retracing this ‘herstory’ - revealing three distinct generations of women painters that emerged between the 19th and 21st centuries.

By observing their work as a group, we can also trace the development of abstract painting in New Zealand from colonial impressionism through to groundbreaking modernism and post-modern abstract expressionism.  As well as a discussion about the works there will be an opportunity to meet several of the artists.

Registration is essential, please phone the office (04) 381 7051
